B is for Banshee

Most-Wanted Monsters is thrilled to be one of more than a thousand blogs taking part in the 2012 A -Z Blogging Challenge - 26 opportunities to help you survive a paranormal apocalypse. Don't let our epic monster limericks fool you - the lore we share about the beasties featured in each daily post could literally save your life. Know them before they GET you!

BANSHEE

Beware the mournful Banshee cry
Her haunting screams, they do not lie
No Irish tricks
Find shelter quick!
And pray for those about to die

Courtney Love's got nothing on a Banshee in full alarm mode. While they're both known for their trademark wails, only one actually foretells death.

Whether she's disguised as a beautiful woman or an ugly hag, a Banshee sighting is never good news. Her mournful cry is typically heard at night and if you're still alive when the howling stops consider yourself one of the lucky.

In many respects, this mysterious beastie resembles traditional Irish keeners of old - as with her mortal counterparts, those who have seen her say she often draws a silver comb through her pale white hair. Creepy.

SURVIVAL TIP: Unfortunately, once the siren song begins, your chances of survival are 50/50 - either that howl is for you, or not. It's the Banshee's sister you want to watch out for, particularly if you're a man.

The Lianhan Sidhe's sole purpose is to seek the love of mortal men - before she chews them up and spits them out. A real man-eater, so to speak. Obviously, you should steer clear of this creature's feminine wiles.

Come on, give us your best shot - what "B" beast makes you want to scream like a Banshee?

Now, head over to some of the other blogs on the A-Z Blogging Challenge.
